Compared with the immenseness of nature, humans are very insignificant. However, we tend to forget the fact in everyday life. In 2007, I began a series of photograph in which I capture the natural landscapes of various locations in Japan, and later in United States. By illuminating the contrast between human beings and the overwhelming presence of nature, I investigate the future of human life, at times revealing a bleak and haunting vision. I produce images with stark contrasts between black and white without digital manipulation. The unique landscapes of Japan and United States photographed with a large format film create an unusual and mysterious world for the viewer to explore.
